New Title IX Policy
Members of the University Community:
Rutgers University has a longstanding commitment to providing outstanding and effective services to educate, inform, protect, empower, and support members of our community in confronting all forms of sexual misconduct.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights issued new Title IX regulations on May 6, 2020, defining how institutions must respond to incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. In accordance with the new Title IX regulations, Rutgers University has created a new policy, Title IX Policy and Grievance Procedures, which will become effective on an interim basis August 14, 2020, pending final approval by the Board of Governors. In developing this policy, Rutgers considered the best interest of our community while still meeting our obligations.
In order to make our community better, we encourage our members to notify the appropriate offices of incidents of sexual misconduct. Reports of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, and/or stalking may be made using any of the following options:
- Report to a Title IX Coordinator directly (a list of each campus’s Title IX Coordinator is provided below). Such a report may be made at any time (including during non-business hours) via telephone or email, or by mail to the address listed for the Title IX Coordinator.
- Report online, using the reporting form posted here.
Individuals may also report crimes of sexual violence to the Rutgers University Police Department.
If you, or someone you know, should need confidential support or advocacy, please reach out to our Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance (VPVA) offices at Rutgers-New Brunswick, Rutgers-Camden, Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences to begin to get the help you need.
In addition, the University’s Sexual Harassment Prevention and Culture Change website contains resources such as the report of the Rutgers University Committee on Sexual Harassment Prevention and Culture Change, as well as the latest news on Rutgers’ initiatives and activities in this regard. Importantly, the website includes a Feedback and Suggestions form, where you can let us know your thoughts on the university’s existing policies and resources on sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination. The University also posts its Campus Climate Assessments, which contain information about the experiences, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of students related to sexual violence on campus.
